“I was disheartened by a few leeder o phobes criticizing you for not being disabled yourself and therefore not understanding disabled people, life on a wheelchair and such.
I would like to remind them about the human quality of empathy. You don't need to be disabled to understand disabled individuals and their problems. Do we need to be dead to understand death? I think not.
Kudos to all positive and cheerful disabled individuals.”

“I am an occupational therapy student and my assignment task is to analyze a site produced by people with a disability. I have to look at the way's in which each site component (e.g. newsletter, podcasts etc) challenges common stereotypes about people with a disability. Something that came up is humor similar to that of this website and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for me? Love the site by the way!

“I love these strips, I make sure to check it everyday...I'm in a wheelchair due to a rare form of asthma, M.E and FMS and used to just use it out of the house but recently have had to go into it full time and the strips always make me laugh and show me that no matter how sucky it may seem, there's always a better way of looking at it, so thanks for dizABLED.”

“My name is Macey and I was shot back in 1996. I have a L3L4 hole in my spine. I am in my wheelchair and have NEVER let it stop me. Much due to my mother not babying me when she could have and thought she was killing me by being tough. I am now a Harley Davidson rider with the help of my husband. I ride all over the country. I have a three wheeler of my own. I love to ride and nothing slows us down. I go to events and we have a special trailer that we pull behind our bike that we put my chair into and you should see the looks we get. I have had people all over the country tell me how I give them hope that they can do that too. No I am not ramping off things and doing flips which by the way is cool as hell but I am trying in my own way to do it all on my own. I don't take help and and do take credit for the keeping going even when I feel like shit. So this 41 year old women can do it so can any other people. Just get up and ride baby!”

I am a teacher of preschool children with disabilities and we have a group of 5th grade PALS come to our class once a week to "Buddy Up" with my kids. I am planning on having my 5th grade PALS visit your site to gather information for their Science Fair booth on awareness of kids with varying abilities. “I love the website. I have been in a wheelchair for 49 years and humor has really helped me. Other people think I'm a nut sometimes when I call myself things like roller boy, handi-man, wheelie boy, etc. My boss nearly choked on her coffee one morning when she saw hanging outside my cubicle, a photograph of a man in a wheelchair covered in bees with an article written in tabloid style making fun of the event. Her only comment was, "You're warped". It is nice to know I'm not the only one who finds humor in my situation.”

“I can't believe people have issues with this cartoon! I found it funny and refreshing, and all the more interesting because it was written by an AB. I mean, we need MORE allies in this world, not fewer. Thank you so much for really understanding the frustration and helping us make light of it. My fridge will be liberally decorated with this strip by the end of the evening!
And to all that find it offencive because the artist isn't in a chair: how many senators and congressmen/MPs have you seen in chairs? How many Supreme Court judges? There are only a few million of us, and 6 billion of them. We need more people like this artist in the world if we want better laws and accessibility. If you want the ambulatory world to accept us and understand, maybe you shouldn't alienate those that do. Just a thought.

“Your site is great! I've used a wheelie for 6 years now through having ME/CFS. Last week i went to a gig, wheeled myself to the front, asked some ABs if I could stand between them to use the security barrier to support my weight. Then I danced my arse off. Their faces! I haven't been out of bed since, but hell, it was worth it. Thanks for showing the reality, insanity and fun of life for us dizabled (tis the same in UK). The strips have cheered me up while bed bound. Keep it up : )”

“Hi, I was directed to your site as part of my nursing class and would like to put my 2 cents in. Your site is great, mucho kudos! I think people's reactions are based on where they are with their own thoughts and experiences. Folks need to remember that is is OK to laugh WITH someone but not AT them. I think much of the akwardness involving "non disabled" folks and disabled folks is that the "non disabled" folks are uninformed about the situation. They usually "want to help" but may well come off looking quite stupid... So, here's to more informed and less stupid!! Thanks.”
